Antenna Theater's multi-media adventure tour in San Francisco , Magic Bus, will be celebrating its one year anniversary this month on the summer solstice, June 21st. The Magic Bus visits San Francisco's hippie hot-spots, blending documentary film, music and psychedelic art into an unforgettable 'trip'. Magic Bus is Antenna Theater's longest running production and on June 21st, the longest day of the year, the bus will conduct a special tour through San Francisco to commemorate their achievement.
Magic Bus provides a unique experience for its passengers; half sightseeing tour in the bay area , half documentary film about the city's history during the 1960s. Regular shows are 90 minutes and travel from Union Square through Chinatown, North Beach, Financial District, Market Street, Haight-Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Pan Handle, Civic Center and back to Union Square. The 90 minutes are split between observations of modern city monuments and attractions, and a multimedia show on the retractable window shades of the bus. Historic images and video are projected onto screens that roll down to cover the bus windows and roll up so that the audience can see the city's modern landscape. Hired performers, dressed as historical figures of the 60s era, perform narratives, pass out flowers, and provide comic relief throughout the hour and a half excursion.
"Magic Bus is moving Antenna Theater beyond the realm of purely theatrical productions," said Chris Hardman, Found of Antenna Theater, "taking Antenna's interactive theater to the international travel arena by creating an experience for all visitors to share San Francisco's rich counter-culture history."
Magic Bus's celebratory bus tour in San Francisco will take place on the summer solstice, June 21st. Participants in the event will meet at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park at 10:30 am. From there the bus will travel to various San Francisco landmarks to hand out flowers and invite people to enter the bus and view partial segments of the show. The tour will make a temporary stop at City Lights Book Store in North Beach around 1 pm, and will conclude below the Cliff House at Ocean Beach. It is a free event and welcome to anyone who observes the bus and would like to learn more about the embedded hippie culture of San Francisco .
