Nothing brings an end to summer road-trip fantasies like the thought of expensive gas. With prices in the Washington metro area more than a dollar higher per gallon than last summer, you may be considering canceling long-distance drives and rethinking your daily commute. But you don’t have to hang up the keys entirely — here’s a primer on how to pay less at the pump.
Save at the pump

The discount is cumulative, which means that if you earn 200 points, you’ll save 20 cents; 300 points, 30 cents; and so on. Points are valid for 30 days and can be used for up to 35 gallons at a time.
Make your credit card work for what you need most. Many credit card companies offer special rewards for gas purchases. Below, a sampling:
