Opera 11.50 earns Web apps powers
Web apps made a tepid splash with the public when they debuted in Google Chrome last year, but that hasn't stopped other developers like Opera from joining the club. Also known as in-browser apps, Opera 11.50 for Windows (download) , Mac (download) , and Linux (download) , released today, now offers Web apps in the form of Speed Dial extensions.
Web apps are special sites written in HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript that allow developers to treat the browser as the coding platform. What this means for the end user is that you can run games like Angry Birds, get real-time weather updates, or see recommendations from your Read It Later list on the fly.
Other changes in Opera 11.50 include an interface tweak and support for password synchronization in Opera Link. Engine improvements in the new version include broader HTML5 support including Session History and Navigation, and faster CSS and SVG rendering for more stable image loading.
So really the dominance of norms and lots of amateur IT folk who dont really know what they are talking about mixed with blog opinions from journalists who call themselves tech journo's but are barely at pc store tech support level (read totally useless.) has lead to tech being drivin by hype and popular opinion and not by anything like the quality of the tech, its a shame really. 1> In its early days, while browsers like IE were free, opera was adware supported. It's continuously show advertisements in a small box on the top right corner if you didn't cough up the money to purchase opera, and eat bandwidth in the process. The internet wasn't as fast or as cheap as it is now for the average, and folks didn't want to slow it down even more by these stupid advertisements. They moved to something else, got used to the experience the other browser provided, and with time the other browsers caught up with opera in terms of features, and they didn't have a reason to switch back to opera. 2> This is a major one, huge website incompatibility. A buncha buncha popular websites don't render correctly in opera, and opera devs keep blaming the website in question for this. An average user doesn't care about W3C standards or who invented the CSS, if a website they need doesn't work in opera, they'd start lookin for alternatives. The alternatives available (firefox, chrome, safari, IE9) are very competitive and offer a user experience which is at par with opera, if not better.

I'm trying to make a simple CSS drop down menu that when you mouse over a link, the sub menu appears. I've managed to achieve this when you mouse over an li but can't figure out how to do it using a link.
The reason why I'm trying to do this using a link rather than the li is that my menu width is 100% and the li spans a greater area than the link so if you mouse over that area, the sub menu appears when you don't want it to.
