Cameron helps youngsters build raft
David Cameron, has mobilized to help build a raft barrel with young people on a program dedicated to helping repair the broken links of modern society.
The Prime Minister met a group of ten young people in an Outward Bound center on the shores of Lake Ullswater, Cumbria.
He helped the group of all sections of society, building the raft.
Camp leaders said the exercise was to teach young people the value of work, trust and accountability drives.
They had been invited at the center of the Outward Bound Trust Howtown by charity Network Challenge - which says that the lessons learned could help turn the tide of fear and loathing disgrace the nation.
Mr Cameron, who arrived at the center of a Jaguar XJ money taken by an officer of police protection, was welcomed by staff and the ten young people, all wearing sweaters. He changed his elegant navy blue suit blue jeans and a polo shirt, and black plimsolls, and then rallied to help the group to tie together a raft barrel.
He said teaching people to work for them was "one of the things we need to do," adding: ". We must give young people these opportunities and bring them together in new ways" "
Jon Yates, director and co-founder of Network Challenge, said the charity was addressing the issues behind the riots and destructions saw last week.
"Some children of this program have never had a friend of a different race before, never met anyone who assumed they would go to college, never met an elderly person.We try to open their eyes to see who is in their community, and to enable them to meet people they never met before. "
William Ripley, director of learning and adventure to the center of Bound Trust, said: "In addition to helping to teach these children what they can do, this experience will help them learn the responsibility for themselves and others, and respect - the things we saw were clearly missing during the riots of last week.
