Any person who enjoys working in the garden and doing yard work needs to have a garden cart. A good garden cart may be made of metal or plastic. In general, a metal cart is preferable because if the plastic is left out in the sun for a long time it may become brittle and crack.

Garden carts have more than one wheel, which makes them quite different from wheelbarrows. There are garden carts that have only two wheels, both at the back, while others have four wheels like a wagon. When shopping for a cart to use for yard work, check to see that the wheels are not too small. Small wheels can make the cart less easy to handle.

Very often while doing yard work, gardeners need to use a cart or wagon to haul garden waste such as leaves and grass clippings. A cart or wagon that is too large will be hard to maneuver and hard to store.

You will have to consider the design of the garden cart or wagon carefully to be sure you buy one that is easy to fill and easy to empty when you are moving large volumes of heavy material in the yard. Usually the gardener will want to empty the cart by tipping it forward. Quite often when the gardener needs to fill a cart, this is done by tilting it and scooping the material into it. The cart should be light enough that it is easy for either a man or a woman to move it and tilt it while it is carrying a heavy load.

Garden wagons can have a bigger holding capacity than the carts, but both are commonly used to carry away garden waste. Neither the garden cart nor the wagon can work in a scoop-like manner.
