LSUS' 2011 soccer schedule released

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport Athletic Director Doug Robinson and Head Women's Soccer Coach Mike Aguilar announced on Friday the soccer schedule for the upcoming 2011 season. The tough schedule features two NCAA Division I opponents and three NCAA Division III opponents.

Their schedule consists of 16 regular-season games including one exhibition game to start the season as a tune-up game. The upside to the strong schedule is that the Lady Pilots will play 10 of their 16 games at home at the friendly confines of The Swamp on the campus of LSUS.

The Red River Athletic Conference schedule consists of a total of 9 games with five home dates and four road trips but those four games will be consecutive games toward the end of the regular season.

The Lady Pilots will open their pre-season schedule on August 17 with an exhibition game at Richland College in Dallas, Texas, at 5:00 p.m. Then they return home for the first four games with a match on August 23 against Louisiana Tech University (3:00), August 26 versus Southern University (1:00), Louisiana College on September 5 (3:00), and LeTourneau University on September 6 (6:00).

The following game will technically be a road game but they will still play in Shreveport as they take on Centenary College at 1:00.

The Lady Pilots first road game of the season will be on September 16 at the former GCAC opponent Belhaven University at 2:00. The Lady Blazers departed the GCAC for the Southern States Athletic Conference two years ago.

LSUS will play their first four RRAC matches at The Swamp: Huston-Tillotson (September 22, 3:00), SAGU (September 24, 1:00), University of the Southwest (October 6, 1:00), and Texas Wesleyan University (October 8, 1:00) with a date mixed in with non-conference opponent Lyon College on September 27 at 11:00 a.m.

The Lady Pilots will play four tough road games in a row in RRAC play as they play their first conference match on the road against Texas College (October 13, 1:00). Then they travel to Bacone College (October 15, 1:00). The next week is the longest road trip of the season as they visit University of Texas at Brownsville (October 20, 5:00) and Our Lady of the Lake University (October 22, 1:00).

LSUS wraps up their regular season schedule on Saturday, October 29, at The Swamp at 1:00 against Northwood University.

The Red River Athletic Conference consists of 10 teams in women's soccer with the top six advancing to the 2011 RRAC Tournament which will hold a different format than last season. Last year all six teams for both the men and women bracket met in Brownsville, Texas, for the tournament.
