Eugene family injured in crash east of Troutdale

Five members of a Eugene-area family were injured Friday afternoon, July 1, in a single-vehicle rollover crash along Interstate 84 about 3 miles east of Troutdale.

According to state police Trooper Mike Reel, a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Kristin Estlick, 34, was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 20 at approximately 2:30 p.m. A witness told police that one of the vehicle’s tires apparently blew out prior to Estlick losing control. The vehicle went off the right shoulder and rolled before coming to rest on its wheels about 3 feet from the railroad tracks.

Estlick, her husband and three children ages 13, 11 and 18 months, were transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries. All occupants were using safety restraints; the youngest child was in a child-safety seat.

Railroad traffic was halted during the response and vehicle removal. Eastbound traffic was limited to one lane for an hour.

Oregon State Police, which is continuing the investigation, was assisted at the scene by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Troutdale Police Department, Multnomah County Rural Fire District No. 14, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Union Pacific Railroad.

Sometimes the manual locking hubs can make noise. My warns were making more of a clicking sound and I look the lock ring off the outside of the outer axle and this took care of the noise. That ring is not really necessary because, for there to be a problem the axle would have to slide out a full 6 inches to disengage the hub, if this happens you have something far worse to worry about. A bearing noise will be a rough or “roar” noise at approx. 30mph and up. It may seem to go away at higher speeds, but it is usually masked by wind and tire noise.
