An American tragedy: Obama's patheticism

. Hypocrisy. Self-aggrandizement. Yep, sounds like yet another Barack Obama news conference.

The president, seeking to break the deadlock on the Great Debt Ceiling Debate, took to his bully pulpit Wednesday last and promptly sullied it. Mr. Obama's patheticism -- a most revealing exercise in strong-willed weakness -- ran painfully rampant for more than 60 minutes.

And it perhaps was best illustrated by (but by no means limited to) his suggestion that Republicans' support for tax breaks for corporate jets would threaten kids' college scholarships, if not their very safety.

Never mind the jobs and taxes that the manufacture, operation and maintenance of such jets produce, Obama conveniently forgets that his highly touted stimulus package approved by Congress contained a tax break to help businesses buy their own planes.

But it's far worse than that. The president, tanking in the polls and his lack of any real discernible leadership skills exposed, decides to prosecute the kind of class warfare that, in supposedly "leveling the playing field," only makes everyone and the nation poorer, and not just monetarily.

This kind of behavior is part and parcel to the intellectual dishonesty of liberalism. And how truly tragic it is for America that Barack Obama so eagerly engages in it.
