Man Arrested, Charged In Death Of Infant Son

TOWAMENCIN TWP., Pa. -- A Montgomery County man is behind bars, charged in connection with the death of his three-month-old son.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman announced the arrest of Jameel Earthy East in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

According to Ferman, 3-month-old Enzo East was transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on Friday with a fractured skull and brain injury.

Enzo died at CHOP just after 8:00 Saturday evening.

Ferman said the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office performed an autopsy Monday and determined that Enzo died because of two skull fractures from blunt force trauma. They ruled the death a homicide.

According to police, they interviewed Jameel on Tuesday, and at first he told police that Enzo was not injured while he was babysitting him.

Jameel later told police that Enzo had stopped breathing and he tried CPR.

Jameel said he dropped Enzo while trying to perform CPR. Jameel then told police he carried Enzo down the stairs he fell against the handrail and Enzo's head hit the wall hard.

Police said they then confronted Jameel over inconsistencies in his story, and Jameel changed his story again.

Police said Jameel then said Enzo threw up on his shorts and he took Enzo to the bathroom to give him a bath. At that point he told police that he became overwhelmed and hit Enzo's head against the counter.

Jameel said he then started giving Enzo a bath and noticed that he was not breathing, and that his eyes were rolling back into his head.

Jameel is charged with third degree murder and unsworn falsification to authorities.
